What is ACO?

 

Accessible Career Options (ACO) is an employment agency that specializes in matching qualified candidates to meet the needs of a potential employer. ACO's staff has over 30 years experience in developing partnerships with local businesses. The services are at no cost to the employer because we are a vendor for the State of Wisconsin Department of Vocational Rehabilitation to provide employment services for people with barriers to employment.

Sue Gumina-Cannon, President

Sue has been working with individuals with disabilities for over 35 years. She has a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. She has been providing transitional services to individuals with disabilities for the past 16 years. Sue has an extensive background working with individuals with special needs and has developed vocational programs to assist in developing the necessary skills for gainful employment. She has vast knowledge and experience in conducting assessments, job development, job coaching, soft skills training and preparing for the transition from school to work. She has served as the department chair for 15 staff members, was the President of the Burleigh West Town Business Association, and has been instrumental in developing relationships within the community.

Quinncy Hinton, Vice President

Quinncy Hinton was previously the Manager of Supported Employment Services for three years at The Milwaukee Center for Independence. He has over 7 years experience as a job developer and job coach. Prior to working for MCFI he was a store supervisor at Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Wisconsin. His passion is developing customized job searches for individuals with disabilities to assist them in obtaining employment. Quinncy specializes in connecting with the business community to understand their staffing needs. He then matches the company’s needs with qualified candidates and provides on-the-job supports to assure success. Quinncy has an Associate Degree in Business Management from Milwaukee Area Technical College.

Cindy Oppe, Job Development Specialist

Cindy has been working with businesses, education, and people with disabilities for over 35 years.  She has a Bachelors Degree in Special Education and Elementary Education and a Masters Degree in Administration.  She has extensive knowledge and experience with coaching, program development, curriculum development, tutoring, supervision, and skills assessment. She has served as Learning Coordinator for more than 15 years to more than 100 staff members.  Cindy is passionate about her career and working with individuals in helping to reach their goals.

Dawn Ahrens, Job Development Specialist

Dawn is a licensed professional counselor and licensed clinical social worker. Her specialty and training is working with individuals with disabilities who have a mental health diagnosis and transitioning high school students who have documented disabilities while attending school. She has extensive knowledge in working with students with cognitive disabilities, specific learning disabilities, and emotional/behavioral disabilities. For 20 years she was a DVR counselor assigned to a transition team where she worked for Milwaukee Public Schools, suburban schools, private schools, at risk schools, and alternative schools. She understands the process of getting an individual to work while focusing on their rehabilitation needs.

Mary Verstegen, Job Coach

Mary Verstegen had home schooled her four girls for the past 16 years that has given her a wealth of experience working in the field of education.  Having a daughter with a learning disability, she became an advocate for her by making sure her needs were being met. She understands how to work with individuals with disabilities by providing necessary accommodations, and by presenting things in a variety of ways so understanding occurs.  In addition, Mary has 35 years experience in the workforce as a legal secretary and office manager, and understands the demands that employers place on their employees.   Mary knows what it takes to be successful in a job and brings that knowledge to the consumers she works with as she job coaches them. 

William Richardson, Job Developement Specialist, Job Coach

William is an Employment Consultant/ Job Developer and has 15 years employment history in the areas of training, consulting, and managing.  William has network of resources within the community that enables him to excel at the task of finding jobs, becoming a door opener for ACO's candidates for employment.  

Brandi Austin, Job Developement Specialist, Job Coach

Brandi, has a Masters of Business Administration with a concentration in marketing and a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance with a minor in Psychology; a trio of knowledge that makes for an interesting and effective approach to working with the disabled.  She has experience, working with the under privileged through organizations like House of Love Youth Homes, Inc. and faith based organization throughout the city of Milwaukee.  Additionally, through her company, Luminocity Enterprises, LLC she has established several professional relationships with small business owners and big business owners alike, making her an asset for any organization seeking potential employer connections.

Jim Horvat, Job Development Specialist, Job Coach

Jim Horvat, Job Development Specialist, Job Coach

Jim has been involved in employment and recruiting for more than 10 years. He has worked for Manpowergroup, Aflac and held management and director positions in both corporate and non-profit sectors. Jim has a degree in Marketing Communications. He brings a fresh and innovative approach to his job development and coaching duties.

Ken Schwacher, Job Coach

Ken is a former staff Sign Language Interpreter from the Milwaukee Area Technical College in which he served students for 22 years. His background in special services goes back to 1990 when he began working at the Center for the Deaf-Blind as a teacher. Ken enjoys working with clients at ACO as they begin their journey in their new job and to watch them achieve their goals while building confidence and independence.

 

Ken says, "By working along side each client and providing them with the skills they need for success, not only do my clients gain pride in what they do, but I am proud to be part of their new career and their new journey in life."

Jenna Ehlinger, Job Coach

Jenna is a student at Wisconsin Lutheran College.  She is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Anthropology.  She strives to pursue a career specifically in cultural anthropology an archaeology.  She will graduate in the year 2020 and plans on joining the Peace Corps for two years before pursuing a Masters in Archaeology.  Jenna enjoys working with people and is using her time at ACO to enhance her interpersonal skills and gain human service experience.

Tristaca Patrick holds an Associate"s Degree in Business Management from Bryant and Stratton College, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Manager from Cardinal Stritch University, as well as a Master's in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix.   As an active member of the Milwaukee Urban League she has volunteered with several organizations including Pathways to College and Girls in Action.  Additionally, Tristaca has used her skills to facilitate various workshops for over 10 Milwaukee Public Schools.  She also volunteers for the Wisconsin Women's Business Initiative and facilitates money management classes in her spare time. She strongly believes in the power of education for everyone and is a continuous learner.  Tristaca uses her experience and connections to build relationships with employers and organizations to create effective and thought-provoking job shadow opportunities for ACO.
